Building Powerful Tools

An IoT solution can be as complex as a fully custom-built piece of equipment or as familiar as a computer or mobile phone we use every day. Our team of engineers and product specialists are knowledgeable in building custom IoT hardware from PCB boards to end user products.

Our experience with Tattle Systems demonstrates our capabilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ensure the hardware devices get enough power to run throughout all conditions?

A full IoT solution needs its components to be firing on all cylinders to ensure that reliable data is properly sent to the end user so they can make their real time, sometimes critical, decisions. The North Star Systems team has a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to ensuring that power is never a problem.

One option we consider is to reduce how much “juice” a device needs by using ultra-low-power sensors and system components. This sometimes means getting our developers and systems engineers to design and build a solution when you need something special that doesn’t yet exist.

Another option our team can use is to cut power consumption further by programming the device to use as little “juice” as possible.

However, even though IoT devices can be made extremely efficient, they still need some power, even if it’s minimal. Batteries are an option but even they go dead at some point. So, North Star Systems Tattle hardware devices are “solar ready,” for when none of these options exist.

Our team is already thinking of innovative ways to handle the problem of power leveraging vibration or heat as future options.

How do you handle connectivity, so that the hardware used relays information, consistently?

As an IoT systems developer, North Star Systems works at the leading edge of network capacity, producing solutions for rural and agricultural customers that are reliable, secure, and above all, add value to our clients.

North Star Systems has designed our own solution to manage the SIM cards used by our Tattle Systems , and worked with TELUS to integrate it into their dedicated IoT network offering, with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to ensure added security. As a result, we have control over the connectivity needs of every Tattle we sell and support.
